MachairWind Pre-Application Consultation – Public Notice – Autumn 2025

Notice is hereby given of a second statutory pre-application consultation by MachairWind Limited relating to the proposed development of offshore works and licensable marine activities associated with MachairWind Offshore Windfarm. The first consultation period took place from Monday 26th May to Sunday 6th July 2025. This consultation period will take place over six weeks, from 20th October to 30th November 2025. The Notice provides full details on the in-person and online events, along with how feedback can be shared with the project team.

Notice is hereby given of forthcoming statutory pre-application consultation by MachairWind Ltd relating to the proposed development of offshore works and licensable marine activities associated with MachairWind Offshore Windfarm.
MachairWind intends to hold two periods of pre-application consultation during 2025. The first consultation period will take place over 6 weeks, from Monday 26th May to Sunday 6th July 2025.

MachairWind Wind Farm Development Area Scoping Report (opens in a new window)

This Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Report relates to the Project’s Windfarm Development Area (WDA), located to the northwest of Islay. Scoping is an important early step in the preparation of an EIA, as it involves outlining the topics will be assessed within the EIA, the assessment methodology will be used, and the information will be used to inform the assessment. The Scoping Report covers a range of technical topics of relevance to the offshore site, including but not limited to offshore ornithology, marine mammals, commercial fisheries, socio-economics, and seascape, landscape and visual impact. MachairWind Wind Farm Development Area Habitats Regulations Appraisal Screening Report (opens in a new window)

This Habitats Regulations Appraisal Screening Report presents information to support screening for likely significant effects from the windfarm development area infrastructure and proposed activities, addressing the screening stage by providing information to enable screening of potential likely significant effects on European or Ramsar sites.

MachairWind Economic and Social Scenarios Opportunities and Impacts Report (opens in a new window)

This BiGGAR Economics report is an early stages study into the potential benefits and opportunities for communities and supply chain businesses around eight locations that could be considered for the project. The report considers any potential impacts of using the different locations for the construction period to build the windfarm and/or the lifespan of its operations. Further evidence-based studies are required to take account of emerging policies and to investigate technical capabilities, which will help determine the location of construction and operations and maintenance facilities for MachairWind.
