Over 7,500 visitors attend ScottishPower Renewables' Whitelee Community Day

More than six thousand visitors flocked to ScottishPower Renewables’ Whitelee Community Day (Sunday) for an action-packed event at the UK’s largest onshore windfarm.
Visitors were able to explore the windfarm and learn more about the turbines from the Operations and Maintenance Team, who shared their expertise and experience of what it’s like to run a windfarm like Whitelee.
Gillian Noble, SPR's Managing Director, Onshore Origination and Development, said: “Communities are at the heart of everything we do and our annual family day is a fantastic way to bring our employees and local communities together to showcase everything Whitelee has to offer. It’s much more than a windfarm and it’s been great to see such a strong turnout and support for this popular event.
Visitors had the chance to dive into the world of renewable energy with insights from the team, while also enjoying hands-on activities from Glasgow Science Centre, SmartSTEM and Earth Energy. From trying out piping and drumming with the ScottishPower Pipe Band to meeting animals at the petting zoo, there was plenty to experience.

Beyond the fun, the event offered a chance to explore Whitelee’s 130km of scenic trails, open year-round to walkers, cyclists, runners, and horse riders. A wide range of exhibitors—many returning year after year—helped inspire future generations to care for the environment and consider careers in STEM.
With support from groups like WWF, Cancer Research UK, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, local police, and a fantastic selection of local independent food vendors, the day truly had something for everyone. Once again, it proved to be a memorable and meaningful celebration for all ages.
