SPR is committed to using Scottish and UK companies to develop, build and operate MachairWind offshore windfarm. This includes leveraging the breath of skills and expertise available within the West of Scotland from companies local to the project.

We are also focussed on helping local communities and businesses capture the full range of social and economic opportunities arising from the windfarm through actions in support of skills development, innovation and supply chain diversification.

Investment in the Local Supply Chain

SPR has ambitious plans to maximise Scottish and UK supply chain content at MachairWind, as presented in the project’s Supply Chain Development Statement (SCDS), which sets out our commitments for supply chain expenditure for each phase of the windfarm project. These commitments are reflected in value of the contracts awarded by the project to date, over 90% of which have been placed with UK registered companies, including 58% with Scotland registered companies. 

In addition to creating supply chain opportunities, MachairWind will help to generate employment and stimulate investment in infrastructure. We’re focussed on helping local communities and economies capture the full range of benefits created by the windfarm and have set out the actions we will take to do so within the MachairWind Socio-Economic Action Plan, which forms part of the project’s planning application. 
 

Supply Chain Development Statement

The MachairWind SCDS sets out our commitment to using Scottish and UK suppliers to develop, build and operate the windfarm project. It also includes the actions we will take in support of supply chain and skills development within Argyll & Bute and Scotland more broadly.

Socio-Economic Action Plan

The MachairWind Socio-Economic Action Plan (SEAP) sets out how SPR will develop, build and operate MachairWind in a manner that maximises social and economic benefits for its host island communities, Argyll and Bute, the West of Scotland, and Scotland more broadly. Produced in conjunction with BiGGAR Economics, the SEAP sets out the actions SPR will take in support of:

  • Being a Good Neighbour
  • Maximising Local Employment Opportunities
  • Maximising Opportunities for the Scottish Supply Chain
  • Contributing to Placemaking
  • Contributing to Regional Economic Development

Stimulus Funding

To help deliver our SCDS and SEAP commitments, we’ll make up to £25m of stimulus funding available for initiatives that support Scottish businesses and communities to realise socio-economic value from MachairWind offshore windfarm. The funding will be used to:

  • Support investment in Scottish infrastructure and facilities for offshore wind
  • Help companies develop products and services for offshore wind
  • Help build offshore wind skills within the local workforce
     

 

Supply Chain Engagement

We regularly attend and exhibit at events to help promote awareness MachairWind and offer companies the opportunity to speak with us about potential future contract opportunities. Recent events include:

  • Scottish Renewables Offshore Wind conference in Glasgow on 28th & 29th January 2026
  • West Highland Vision Conference in Oban on 12th March 2026
  • All Energy Conference in Glasgow on the 13th & 14th May 2026
  • Global Offshore Wind Conference in Manchester on 16th & 17th June 2026

As the project moves closer to construction, we will also run Meet the Buyer sessions around specific contracting and subcontracting opportunities.
