The Area of Search for Proposed Export Cable Corridor
MachairWind is at an early stage of identifying a potential offshore export cable corridor (ECC) that could connect the proposed windfarm to the electricity network.
The windfarm, if consented, would require subsea cables to export electricity from the windfarm to shore and ultimately into the UK’s grid infrastructure. It is anticipated that up to four offshore export cables, each up to approximately 180km in length, would be required.
Area of Search
We are now seeking local knowledge and views from fishers and other marine users in relation to the Area of Search for the proposed Export Cable Corridor. The area shown on the map below is not a proposed cable route but rather an Area of Search within which the ECC will be identified; this will be informed by stakeholder feedback, engineering constraints, and environmental considerations.
Any future corridor would be considerably smaller than the Area of Search shown.
We are looking to better understand fishing activity, navigation, seabed use and other marine interests within the Area of Search before potential route options are identified and refined.
