Euchanhead Windfarm Plan

Project History

Forestry Commission Scotland is making its contribution to the production of renewable energy by entering into a partnership with ScottishPower Renewables to develop wind energy on the National Forest Estate.

Forestry Commission Scotland has split the National Forest Estate into six development areas. ScottishPower Renewables has been awarded exclusive rights to examine the potential for wind energy projects in south west Scotland and additional rights to examine further projects across four of the other areas.

Location

Located in the National Forest Estate of Euchanhead, south west Scotland, within Dumfries and Galloway. The site of Euchanhead Windfarm comprises three separate forest areas located to the south west of Kirkconnel and Sanquhar and to the south of the A76.

Stage

Under development with environmental surveys underway to examine the local ecology, archaeology, hydrology, bird life and access.

Community Consultation

We visited local communities in Sanquhar in July 2013 to introduce our proposals and will continue to engage with local communities, stakeholders and interested parties throughout the development of the windfarm.

Benefits

As a responsible developer of renewable energy we are keen for the communities surrounding this project to benefit. We are working with Forestry Commission Scotland to develop innovative community benefit options, including investment opportunities.
