ScottishPower Renewables goes from clean and green to muddy and brown in the name of charity

19/06/2025

Green energy company, ScottishPower Renewables, is swapping the clean and green of renewable energy for a muddy, brown obstacle course in Suffolk as it becomes the first-ever headline event sponsor of East Anglian Air Ambulance’s flagship fundraising event, Only The Brave.

East Anglian Air Ambulance & ScottishPower Renewables

ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) – which operates the East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm in the southern North Sea and is currently constructing East Anglia THREE – has teamed up with the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) to support the three-distance muddy obstacle course race for 2025 and 2026.

The 2025 event takes place at the Euston Estate in Suffolk on Sunday 21 September.

Inspired by EAAA pilots, doctors, paramedics, patients and their families, Only The Brave gives teams and individuals the chance to decide whether they will be ‘brave, braver or bravest’ as they face either a three, six or ten mile mud run peppered with obstacles like giant hurdles, cargo nets, monkey bars and dodging water guns.

Fun and challenging, the event raises much-needed funds for the charity, which provides advanced critical care – by air and road – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to the most seriously ill and injured people in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Steve Hodger, SPR’s Head of Offshore Operations and Maintenance, is based in Lowestoft – his home town. He said: “East Anglian Air Ambulance is a vital service and a crucial part of our local community in Suffolk. We’re proud to be the first headline sponsor for this fantastic fundraising event, which helps keep its lifesaving work going.

“East Anglia is the heart of our UK windfarm operations and by partnering with the EAAA to support Only The Brave and help raise much-needed funds, we’re well and truly showing that charity begins at home. I hope to see as many people as possible take part, raising huge sums of money for such a worthy cause.”

Matt Wooltorton, SPR’s East Anglia THREE project construction manager – also from Lowestoft – took part in Only The Brave last year. He added: “Only The Brave is a brilliant way to challenge yourself, have fun and raise money for an amazing charity.

“From crawling under cargo nets and clambering over floating stepping stones to grappling with a giant web and grabbing on to monkey bars, the course tests your strength, endurance, and teamwork every step of the way – it makes building a windfarm in the North Sea seem easy by comparison! It’s great to see ScottishPower Renewables sponsoring this event and supporting the local community in such a way.”

Daisy Rivetti, Corporate Partnerships Manager at EAAA, added: “East Anglian Air Ambulance provides 24/7 treatment and care to give seriously injured and unwell people in our region the best chance of survival and recovery. The charity receives no regular government funding, relying almost entirely on kind and generous support from the communities we are proud to serve.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from ScottishPower Renewables and the two-year partnership for Only The Brave, our flagship fundraising event. This support really will save lives across East Anglia.”
