Proposals for the development of a Windfarm at Wether Hill were recommended for planning approval on 08 March 2005. This approval was preceded by more than two years of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on the potential impacts of Windfarm development at this site. Extensive ornithological and ecological studies were conducted as part of the EIA process. These studies have indicated that the main adverse ecological impact of the development is the potential disturbance to Black Grouse as a result of the construction activity and the operation of the windfarm. A Black Grouse Management Plan was subsequently developed to mitigate against these impacts. Management involves forest and grassland management to retain and enhance foraging habitat.
