Habitat Management
ScottishPower Renewables works extremely hard to ensure our windfarms have a positive effect on surrounding land and biodiversity.
Our approach to habitat management goes beyond regulatory requirements in many cases and has been developed in consultation with regulatory bodies, non-governmental organisations, and wildlife and special interest groups.
We aim not only to minimise our impact on natural habitats but also to improve them, both at existing and planned developments.
Over the last 7 years we have established 3,428 hectares of land benefiting from habitat management. Over the next year this area will increase to 5,953 hectares with the addition of three new sites including Whitelee Windfarm Habitat Management Area – the largest windfarm habitat management area in the United Kingdom.
Habitat restoration and management at our windfarms sites include some of the most unique schemes in the UK to create and manage land for key conservation species.
