ScottishPower Renewables and Hammerfest Win Top Environmental Award


ScottishPower Renewables’ and Hammerfest have received a top environmental award for their work on developing tidal energy generation.

In a ceremony at the Scottish Parliament, The Vision in Business for the Environment Awards (VIBES) awarded both companies the International Co-operation accolade for all their efforts.

This judges felt this was a pioneering project, which with widespread adoption will have significant impact on the UK’s ability to meet renewable energy targets.

Presenting the awards, Minister for Environment Roseanna Cunningham said: "Many Scottish businesses, including those recognised at the VIBES Awards, are becoming increasingly aware that tackling their environmental impact can also deliver major economic benefits – both through cutting costs and attracting new business.

“Scotland is of course very well-placed to capitalise on the greener business revolution and become a world leader when it comes to providing green technologies of the future such as wave and tidal energy and offshore wind.

Keith Anderson, Managing Director, ScottishPower Renewables, said: "We are delighted to been involved with the VIBES award process and to be recognised for our achievements.

“Tidal generation has a considerable part to play in our future energy needs and we are delighted to working with Hammerfest in developing the technology."
