Plans for Whitelee Windfarm Extension on Public Display

16/04/2012

ScottishPower Renewables will present plans for a new five turbine extension to Whitelee Windfarm on the 25th April at a Public Information Day in Fenwick.

Attendees to the event will be able to see photomontages showing what the development would look like and will be able to discuss the detailed survey work undertaken by the project team and have any questions answered.

This is a drop in event and there is no need to make an appointment.

The information day for Whitelee Windfarm Extension Phase 3 will be held at the following location:

Fenwick Hotel
Junction 8 of M77
Kilmarnock
KA3 6AU

3pm to 7pm

Operated by ScottishPower Renewables, Whitelee Windfarm has been operational since 2008 and has become a haven for walkers, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Its unique visitor centre has welcomed approximately 200,000 people since opening just over two years ago, with tens of thousands of further visitors making use of the 90kms of tracks.

Whitelee has its own Countryside Ranger Service, who recently announced an extensive list of free family-themed events at the windfarm for 2012.

Over £1.8 million has also been made available by ScottishPower Renewables to support local initiatives since Whitelee was completed. Just some of the projects to benefit include the Ranger Service and Access Project, the building of a new Eaglesham play park, Age Concern Eastwood, who now has a wheelchair accessible minibus and Neilston Scouts have modernised their meeting hut.

John Alexander, Project Director for ScottishPower Renewables said:

“Public Information Days are a crucial part of the planning and consultation process and the feedback we receive does make a difference and I’d encourage anyone interested in the project to attend this event. We are committed to listening to the views of the local community and answering any questions they may have.”
